Summary/Abstract: The article seeks to keep track of the type of feelings (measured quantitatively) nurtured by the inhabitants of Zgorzelec towards their neighbours from Görlitz. This local face of the problem is set against the nationwide level, i.e., the attitudes Poles have to Germans, and referred to three conceptions: banal nationalism, a man of borderland and a liking between nations. The empirical data gathered show that the inhabitants of Zgorzelec have a better attitude to their neighbours than the Polish society as a whole, and—as it is suggested by the relevant analyses—this feeling can be described as ‘a warm indifference’. The article finishes with a qualitative look, additionally going beyond the area of Zgorzelec/Görlitz, thanks to which one is offered a broader perspective of the issues under question.
