Summary/Abstract: The occupation of Crimea, as well as the ongoing conflict in the east of Ukraine, have created deep divisions between the Central European states. Despite their recent shared history, there is a growing crisis in relations between Poland and the Baltic states on the one side, and the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Austria on the other. Yet this shared history should be used as an example of how to escape the post-communist legacy, something that Ukrainians are now attempting themselves.
