Priorities for international cooperation of the Warmia and Mazury in comparison with other regions of Eastern Poland

Summary/Abstract: This paper presents the results of the investigations concerning resolutions of international cooperation priorities adopted by five Polish regional parliaments; Warmia and Mazury, Podlaskie, Lubelskie Podkarpackie, and Świętokrzyskie. Following the changing international situations, including the Polish accession to the European Union and the launching of the Programme Development of Eastern Poland, each of them (with the exception of Lubelskie) renewed their „priorities” and the leader in this case is Warmia and Mazury that did it three times. Concerning foreign activity, an important role plays among others, an opportunity to use the experience of other regions and to coordinate cooperation between the different actors of the region. Among its objectives outweigh economic tasks related to regional development policy. In the analyzed resolutions a total of 34 countries have been listed, but a clear emphasis is focused on cooperation within the European region and the neighboring countries. Local governments willing to participate in some of Euroregions and international associations. The provisions of the resolution on „international cooperation priorities” of Warmia-Mazury can be described as rational and balanced; they do not differ significantly from other regions surveyed.
