Summary/Abstract: The paper presents results of the empirical research whose aim is to analyze the general attitude of secondary-school pupils and parents towards the elective course Civic Education, and to provide an analysis of the perceived effects of the implementation of this school subject. The Questionnaire for Pupils and The Questionnaire for Parents have been created, and the research was carried out on the sample of 255 respondents (158 pupils and 97 parents of those pupils). Results of the research have shown that the ma- jority of respondents from both observed groups have a positive attitude towards civic education and high expectations from this compulsory elective course. Highly estab- lished expectations apply, to the most extent, to the educational dimension of this course, and to more appropriate functioning of the youth in the social life. In addition to the analysis of expected effects, the research was directed to the analysis of perceived effects of previous attendance of civic education classes. The most distinct effects have been noticed in the communication field and more mature, i.e. more realistic perception of oneself and the others. However, the results have shown that a great number of pupils and parents have noticed no effects of previous attending of the civic education classes. In that sense, the author of the paper points to the need for a continuous follow-up and evaluation of the implementation process of this elective course, in order to identify pos- sible oversights and offer recommendations for future work.
