Summary/Abstract: The contribution discusses the Austro-Hungarian approach to the development of social security policy for military personnel and their families during war and peacetime. On the basis of legislative documents and articles in the Slovenian newspapers it specifically explores the period of World War I. It shows that Austro-Hungary entered the war relatively well-prepared as far as maintenance was concerned.
