Summary/Abstract: Based on the idea that generaly the literary creation conveys an anthropocentric image of the world, we will try to identify in this paper the different instances of the characters appearing in Mircea Nedelciu’s novel, Zodia scafandrului. We will delve into the transformations they go through and the effects of the communist rule on their identities, rule that creates an opposite effect that the one intended, the so-called boomerang effect. The novel, built on two narrative plans, autobiographical and fictional, is a showcase of the living conditions in an oppressive system, with at its forefront the mail character trapped between duties, constraints and imperatives imposed by the society, along with his aspirations, needs and personal characteristics, which give the dimension of surface and deepness to the novel.
