Production, Properties and Application of Spandex Fibers

Summary/Abstract: Spandex is a synthetic fiber which is used for the production of elastic woven fabrics. Since it is lightweight and does not restrict movement, it is often used in sports clothing - swimsuits, leotards and training equipment. It is very suitable for fabrics for underwear. Spandex is derived from a polymer known as polyurethane, which is converted into fibers by dry spinning process. Spandex was first produced in the early 50s of the last century. Initially it was developed as a substitute for rubber, but fields of its application are growing rapidly.
