Summary/Abstract: Mergers and acquisitions decide on the competitiveness and development of not only companies but also sectors and even the whole economy. At the same time the processes are difficult and complicated, which in many cases they end with failure. Undoubtedly, they are justified if they lead to an increase in the value added (or in special cases, to prevent against decrease). The value obtained as a result of the acquisition is otherwise value obtained through synergy, which is the difference between the value of the combined companies and the sum of the separate values of the acquiring company and the acquired. Synergies can come from various sources, both financial as well as operational (organizational structure, management style, etc.). In fact, the synergies are not only a consequence of capital groups creating, but they are often one of the reasons for their being and functioning.
