Summary/Abstract: Divorces represent the actual social phenomenon, having an impact on all spheres of social life. The article provides current demographic picture of this phenomenon in the Slovak Republic. The data come from the standard demographic statistics survey and from the 2011Census. The article then analyses the factors that influence the stability of marriages and describes the consequences of divorces for society, families and children. It also offers suggestions for social activities and programs that can contribute to more effective support of stability of current family.
