Awe and Fascination in Religious Experience

Summary/Abstract: The paper is focused on the religious experience which differs from common human experiences because it is related to the Nominous. This experience is accompanied by sense of fear or awe and by sense of fascination. The starting point is the book Idea of Holy by R. Otto who understands this emotion as an answer to something „wholly other“. According to Otto the religious experience remains exclusively at the level of emotions. He overlooks further human capacities – reason and will – which play irreplaceable role in the religious experience.
