Summary/Abstract: Incidents that took place in early 2014 in the Crimea raised a number of questions of International Law. The right to self-determination is an immanent part of International Law, but its implementation must not be in conflict with the equally important right to respect for sovereignty and inviolability of state borders. Joining the Crimea with the Russian Federation contains a number of aspects that require an answer. This contribution will deal with the issue of the right to self-determination in the context of the Crimea issues, and possible legality or unlawfulness of connecting Crimea to the Russian Federation.
