Summary/Abstract: Portmanteau word, the autofiction suggests the synthesis between autobiography and fiction. The debatable nature of this synthesis has given birth to a large number of definitions trying to theorize this supposedly new literary genre. The moment the concept has gone out of his author’s control, two directions were distinguished: on the one hand, the critics who submitted to Doubrovsky’s term, but enlarged its meaning; on the other hand, the critics who changed Doubrovsky’s meaning. The point of view the critics unanimously agree with is the absolutely fascinating character of autofictions, which unfold an astonishing interplay between the real and the fictional, truth and falsity. This interplay is generated by a contradictory reading pact.
