Summary/Abstract: The European integration is opening new perspectives of social, cultural, economic and political development. The free movement of people caused extinction of the old border conflicts. The integration processes on a global scale require ideological foundation based on a certain system of values. Consequently, within the European Union, there is the collision of traditional culture, built on Christianity, Greek philosophy and Roman law. The new system of values, mainly contained in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of 2000, storms the existing concept of family, marriage, social welfare system, and finally the traditional conception of the state. The collision of two systems of values must raise some concerns and social tensions, that we should talk about. The basis for discussion is the issue of citizenship of the Member State and the citizenship of European Union in the context of national identity.
