Summary/Abstract: The social and cultural transformation from the end of the 20th century has had a serious influence on the concept of upbringing of the man. For this concept significant meaning has it, what has been brought by so called postmodernism. The consequence of postmodernism is, among others, the relativisation of the systems of values. This makes difficult or sometimes even impossible the finding of the purpose and the sense of life. So, one of the tragedies of a contemporary man is the decline of the want of searching for the fundamental issues and answers to questions referring to the life and death of a human being. Recently there are observed certain symptoms of the searching for the lost sense. In this process the important role is able to be played by the pedagogy. Pedagogy is just slowly rallying from a certain axiological muddle and it is coming back to the theology in the reflection upon the upbringing of the man. Nowadays, the questions about the searching for the lost sense are the important task and challenge for the religion pedagogy and religious education. The relation between education and religion is at present the subject of a serious and deep reflection. In this field there are arising new, remarkable demands for the religious education. Socialinės ir kultūrinės pervartos, vykstančios nuo XX amžiaus pabaigos, turėjo ir tebeturi didžiulę įtaką žmogaus ugdymo sampratai. Ugdymo sampratai itin didelę įtaką daro vadinamasis postmodernizmas. Tarp kitų postmodernizmo padarinių paminėtinas vertybių sistemų sureliatyvėjimas. Dėl reliatyvizmo tampa sunku, kartais netgi neįmanoma, rasti gyvenimo tikslą ir prasmę. Taigi viena iš šiuolaikinio žmogaus tragedijų yra išblėsęs susidomėjimas pamatiniais dalykais ir atsakymais į klausimus, susijusius su žmogaus gyvenimu ir mirtimi. Nūdien pastebimi tam tikri požymiai, kad imama ieškoti prarastosios prasmės. Šiuose procesuose ypač svarbus vaidmuo tenka pedagogikai. Pedagogika pamažėl įveikia ją apėmusią sumaištį ir, apmąstydama žmogaus ugdymą, grįžta prie teologijos. Dabar klausimai apie prarastosios prasmės ieškojimą yra ir rimtas uždavinys, ir drauge iššūkis religijos pedagogikai ir religiniam švietimui. Švietimo ir religijos ryšys šiandien yra rimtų ir gilių apmąstymų objektas. Šioje plotmėje kyla nauji dideli reikalavimai religiniam švietimui.
