Summary/Abstract: This text is a homily on the Mother of God written by Theophanes Metropolitan of Nicaea, an author that belongs to the second generation of Palamite theologians. Theophanes of Nicaea is the basic Mariolog of the late Byzantine theology. In his homily (the second part of it here reproduced), Theophanes talks about the ever since predestination of the Virgin to the mystery of the Embodiment based on preknowledge of her unique superiority and the freedom of cooperation with God; about the plan of God in the Embodiment: joining the Creation anticipated in man and fulfilled in Christ in His Body; about the Virgin, the Neck between Christ the Head and His mysterious Body, a transmitter for all the gifts in both ways. The metropolitan of Nicaea also refers to the relation between the Virgin Mother and the Holy Trinity: she is the Holy of the Holies and the altar of sacri- _ ce in the Temple of heavens; the Virgin gives body and feeds the Son and she feeds us with dei_ ed grace; shaped by the Holy Spirit, she becomes the living icon of the Spirit and of His supernatural gifts; she is the spring and the dispenser of the Grace. The Christians have the duty to constantly remember the Mother of God both with praise and living pure life.
