The Kingdom of Dardan

Summary/Abstract: The Dardan kingdom emerged on the historical scene in the 4th century BCE and became one of the most important political and military factors in South-Eastern Europe during the first half of the century. The dardan state, for a long time defied the Roman domination. Under the rule of the Roman empire the Dardania fell in the year 44 and was joined to the province of the Moesia Superior. The independence of the past, which created the Dardan identity, and the constant resistance, led to the creation of a separate Roman administrative-political unit in the year 279 AD: the province of Dardania.
