Summary/Abstract: The panegirs from the region of Strandza with their nestinari’s dances have already been an object of investigation and even of different speculations. Analysing relevant secondary and fieldwork data, the author undertakes an attempt to throw light on their still ill studied rhythmic aspects. As a result of an ethnomusicological interpretation, she comes to the conclusion that obeying to the right rhythm had had a ritual significance, because the instrumental music with its unified rhythm profile (achieved in instrumental polyphony) had unlocked, consolidated and accompanied thee firewalkers’ panegir behaviour.
