Summary/Abstract: Knut Hamsun’s anxiety of Henrik Ibsen – the novelist vs the dramatist. This article investigates the Norwegian novelist Knut Hamsun´s relationship to his fellow countryman, the dramatist Henrik Ibsen. By criticising Ibsen, Hamsun tries to position himself in the literary field. In Harold Blooms terms, Hamsun misreads Ibsen in an anxiety of influence. Knut Hamsun is irritated by Henrik Ibsen as a person. He dislikes Ibsen´s poetics. This article examines Hamsun's disregard for the genre of drama and argues that Hamsun´s authorship in spite of this is nourished by Ibsen.
