Summary/Abstract: The article aims at deconstructing the relation between scientific knowledge and social policy, with the Polish anti-alcohol addiction policy used as a case study. It includes a short description of medical and social models of alcohol addiction and discusses their impact on the Polish anti-alcohol addiction policy and the applicable. It also presents a snapshot of studies on factors which either facilitate or impede the use of scientific knowledge in the social policy development, the characteristics of theoretical models which describe the said process (knowledge transfer and knowledge translation and exchange) and some concepts used to explain its disturbances (forbidden knowledge and strategic ignorance).
