Summary/Abstract: While the transition from communism to democracy was marked by the shift from a heavily centralized state to a more decentralized form of government, in Romania such tendencies were rather confined to the administrative dimension and to a lesser extent to the financial dimension, leaving the discourse on the introduction of a genuine regionalization in suspension. This paper aims at offering an overview of the references to regionalization and related concepts within the post-1989 government programs, thus highlighting the articulation of the topic as a policy guideline of the Cabinets. We argue that the gradual assertion of this topic at governmental leval was determined by both the internal and European political agendas.
