Summary/Abstract: Vampires have taken many forms over the years, different meanings being enclosed within this myth. For this paper we chose to look at Elizabeth Kostova's novel, The Historian, and at Jim Jarmusch's film, Only Lovers Left Alive, and see what ideas are embodied by the vampire. Although there is no direct connection between the two titles, they can be analyzed together if we wish to write about knowledge, art, life and death when the protagonist has been around for centuries. How do the undead look at people, at the changes of the world? How can this outlook over humanity be translated from fantasy to reality?
