Summary/Abstract: Mateiu Caragiale - the expecting view is our introspection and attempt to reveal a possible profile of an equally great and less known 19th century Romanian novelist. This particular work is based on a study written by Alexandru George in 1981, at Minerva Publishing House. However, our point of view is strong, as well, sometimes turning into disagreement, still, standing for any unique and interesting position asserted by the predecessor. The book is a collection of 12 critique chapters, hinting at the writerřs famous novel Gallants of the Old Court, as well as at the short story Remember and the diary. The present article deals strictly with the life background of the novelist. There are substantial pages with direct and indirect presentations of the man, rather than the writerřs, especially the young man, which really show an unexpected perspective of someone who used to live in the shadow of his better known and accepted father, the playwright I.L. Caragiale. There is evidence of a character who struggled to rise, nevertheless to please the formal and informal audience, not to mention his particular and inner fight to overcome any underestimated level attributed by the society. Letters to or from friends, so called protective aunts, deep silence over the motherřs portrait and her contribution, as if following his fatherly pattern, the typical jealousy around his legitimate brother and sister Ŕ are just a few presumptions in favour of his dynamic life.
