Summary/Abstract: In the article which refers to the results of contemporary evolutionary biology an attempt has been made to criticize the concept of a selfish gene by way of pointing out its implications for the understanding of nature and the man. According to the author, the man cannot be perceived as totally determined by the genes ”ruling” the world, but rather as a being that is responsible (and consequently free) for himself/herself and the world he/she is living in.
