Summary/Abstract: The paper aims at presenting a less known research activity carried out by the great teacher and scholar from Blaj, Timotei Cipariu, which is collecting and studying folklore. As a child, guided by his mother and her love for traditions, Timotei Cipariu took part in every important moment of the traditional village life, displaying great interest in folk tales and traditions. Folklore does not only inspire him in writing poetry but also becomes a resource in his linguistic and literary research. His role in promoting interest in folklore and his urge to collect it, while also preserving the original forms, outperforms even his contribution as a theoretician and collector of folklore.
