Summary/Abstract: Fantasy literature would generally seem to have questionable literary value, an assumption that this paper aims to contradict. An overall view on Romanian fantasy literature will show that its importance resides in the core and construction of worlds in which the supernatural, the surreal or the absurd occur in order to cause productive short-circuits. The birth of the unnatural in human imagination is a natural response to the human need for the bizarre. We will explain how mythology, psychology, folklore and anti-physics work together to form this type of literature that sets almost no boundaries in critical approach.
