Summary/Abstract: This text recapitulates the conceptual history of the ‘literary generation’. In Poland, this concept is linked to Kazimierz Wyka’s work from the late 1930s; it is mainly thanks to Artur Sandauer that it has entered the mainstream of literary criticism. From the outset, Polish scholars have drawn inspiration from their German colleagues, while a different, positivistic conceptual history forms the basis of scholarship in France.
