Summary/Abstract: As Ion Biberi says, inner fantastic category usually starts from „a conscienceřs attitude in the presence of a given situationŗ, and depending on this psychological attitude we can distinguish a frightful fantastic or a metaphysical one. This study intends to compare the fantastic types in two short stories written by Cezar Petrescu and Mircea Eliade, identifying in the same time mutual and different elements of vision and expression. From the beginning we notice a link between these works, this link being ghost stories which evidently appoint a frightful fantastic originated in folklore. In order to outline all the characteristic features we are going to analyse the fantastic atmosphere in both stories with its mutual symbols such as: the night, the candles, the mosquitos, the eyes from the painting, all these symbols causing the fear into the main characters, fear which will harmonize with an irresistible attraction for Mircea Eliadeřs hero. After the comparative analyse it results the way in which frightful fantastic combines with comic or ironical reality in Cezar Petrescuřs story, differing from Mircea Eliadeřs technique in Miss Christina, where the feeling of unreal will turn itself into a revelation one, unifying frightful fantastic with metaphysical fantastic.
