Summary/Abstract: The main source of toponym formation remains the common language vocabulary and, since for every language, word formation is an important means of vocabulary enrichment, this affirmation must be also applied to the toponymy field. The current paper continues its journey by analysing place names based on appellatives, anthroponyms or toponyms formed with the help of suffixes. There are numerous such toponyms in the area of the beautiful Bistra and Sebeș valleys; that is why we will limit our discussion to the diminutive and augmentative derivation. Whether there is or whether there is no immediate objective report between the derivative content and the form the object is expressed in, the main function of these derivatives remains that of linguistic differentiation. The category of diminutive and augmentative derivatives takes up an important place among toponymic derivatives, contributing to a better knowledge of toponymic etymology, but also helping to more precisely establish the age of the primary toponyms which constituted the derivation basis.
