Summary/Abstract: The Romanian Surrealist group generated, in its time, a theatrical emulation similar to that of the Swiss Cabaret Voltaire, or of Tzara, Breton and Antonin Artaud on the Parisian stages. Though received as an underground phenomenon, positioned in the margins of the histories of Romanian literature and theatre, the Avant-Garde movement played a leading role in defining the language of the postmodern theatre, as well as in the paradigm shift that took place in the performing arts, by the end of the 20th century.
