Summary/Abstract: In this article, I present selected positions involved in the discussions on the mathematical natureof the universe. On one side stand Platonists represented by Michael Heller and Roger Penrose. On the other, opponents of Platonism such as Lee Smolin, George Lakoff, Rafael Nunez andMarek Szyd􀃡owski. The first group argue for the existence of mathematical structures in the worldand existence of independent mathematical world. The other researchers reject the Platonic visionof the world, as well as the need for a mathematical entity.
