Summary/Abstract: During the First World War, together with the suffering of the people Church hierarchy suffered as well. Although with limited possibilities at their disposal, Church dignitaries and clergy did their best to alleviate the difficult situation of the people. This essay devotes a special attention to the charity activity of three hierarchs: Mitrofan Ban, Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro, Mounts and Coastlands; Bishop Kirilo Mitrovic of Zaholm-Raska and Metropolitan Gavrilo of Pec. The author employs a thorough pedantry in order to expose the manifold Mitrofan Ban’s charity activity that, being supported by the clergy, embraced all the layers of society, regardless of their religious or national affiliation.
