Summary/Abstract: Nicknamed „the patriarch of Hunedoara County”, Father Ioan Sabău (1914-2009) served the Romanian Orthodox Church for 73 years in an exemplary way. His word lighted in his fullness as light set on a candlestick, to give light to all (Mt 5:13) though he kept the faith alive among the sons of our people Romanian. In full Communist era, Father Ioan Sabau managed to build a true cathedral, in Vinerea, in today's known Alba County. This fact was considered as an act of defiance against the political regime who then triggered an endless suffering, in which has acquired a martyr's crown of Jesus.
