Summary/Abstract: his article is devoted to the problem of relationship of the Byzantine Empire and the Sultanate of Iconium in the reign of Michael VIII (1259-1282). The author concludes that this problem is not rightfully disregarded in the historiography, since the policy in relation to Iconium, conducted by Michael VIII, had a great influence on the fate of the Byzantine Asia Minor.
