Summary/Abstract: Norms of citizenship describe how individuals understand their connection to community and to the broader political context. They are part of the attitudinal drives for participation and activism. Likewise, the attachment to various images of good citizenship may be linked to individuals’ life experiences and reinforced by the actual practice of citizenship. This paper provides an exploratory research of norms of citizenship in Romania, asking whether age influences the way people understand good citizenship. Age is found to be a much weaker predictor than the actual habits of participation and the attitudinal backgrounds of individuals. The commitment to different images of good citizenship is best predicted by attitudinal factors, specifically the perceived efficacy of unconventional/conventional forms of participation.
