Summary/Abstract: Evaluation of the material is a system of procedures through which the professional expertise of the content determines the significance of each document or record, all with the basic aim that the minimum documents retain optimum information. However, evaluation results must be aware that absolute principles and that there is no question of valuation. Therefore, for the evaluation of material, regardless of the objective or the method, a better theoretical and practical knowledge of different professional archival principles and criteria is needed. Macro and micro evaluation results are not based on function, and functional evaluation with use of the principles and criteria of evaluation, is the basis of modern methodology of evaluation and selection of archival material from the documentary material, unlike some older, but often used methods of valuation of the content, the types of materials and other principles, which have mainly relied on subjective assessments of individual archivists. So, for any evaluation of archival and documentary material objective, expert-based criteria is necessary, since it will allow optimal records keeping of original data and information on events, phenomena, people, etc., within a certain time and space, with respect to their significance for the history, culture and science in general, and other administrative, official, public, business and personal needs of legal and other parties.
