Summary/Abstract: The traditional way of evaluation of archival material that was characteristic for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period up to the war has not significantly changed even in the postwar period. Besides finishing the application of certain "negative" list of the rest of her personality to the present, and in this way influenced the other processes in working with archival materials, and to a method and a process of treatment and recovery. The basic characteristics of this influence is that, due to "negative" method of valuating a certain amount of material destroyed in the registry it led to taking over incomplete fonds in the archive. While working on these fonds the need comes out, during the process of selection and editing, to keep part of the material originally not defined as a permanent one, due to lack of real archival material, since it can also help as a source of information and data, especially to researchers. The biggest problem is that these needs often were not taken into account during the process of evaluation and selection of archival material, so this part of the material is mostly destroyed and without adequate verification of preserved archival material with the appropriate records. So we came into a situation that in addition that certain archival holdings of the permanent significance were not preserved, nor did the stuff that is not archival and which should be kept in such cases. In addition, nonobservance of certain criteria of evaluation is what largely influenced the structure and content of funds that are now kept in the archives of Bosnia and Herzegovina. All of this points to the need to change the relationship of records service of Bosnia and Herzegovina towards the evaluation of archival material, but also to form a more active attitude of archivists towards solution of this problem.
