PROTECTION OF EMERGING ARCHIVAL MATERIAL IN THE REPUBLIC OF KOSOVO

Summary/Abstract: Archival service in Kosovo, in order to function better while protecting archival material, especially one still in the process of creation has been centralised. Based on a new structure of archive organization a documentation centers have been formed (to collect documents). The new law, currently in power, except public material includes the protection of archival material in possesion of private parties. This material has equal treatment as a private one. The important faxt is that this Law includes protection and preservation of archival material made by international organizations that work in Kosovo like: UNMIK, OSCE, EULEX, etc. There is also a new proposal of adding articles to the Law of organization, systematisation and protection of archival material on electronic mediums (and form). A Statute for official management of electronic documents in being prepared, as well as the one for classical documents. Unique archival system, and adequate archival legislation should form a good basis for better protection and management of Kosovo's archival material. In order to create that an improvement in form of material, cadre and technical ­ technological spheres must be strenghtened Kosovo's archival institutions.
