Summary/Abstract: The former territory of Putna county was divided in September 1950 in four districts: Adjud, Focşani, Panciu, and Vrancea. These territorial structures copyed the Soviet model and were administered by the district people’s councils (“sfaturi populare raionale”, in Romanian), institutions under the direct supervision of the Communist Party. As local organs of state power, district people's councils have been involved in the major changes initiated by the communist regime in former Putna county: the nationalization of industrial and commercial enterprises, buildings’ nationalization, collectivization of agriculture, electrification of villages, literacy of the population.
