Summary/Abstract: This paper intends to present the last years of the reign of Stephen the Great according to the notes put down by one of the most famous Venetian diarists, Marino Sanudo. However, since the author has in intention to publish a more developed version of the text with regard to the so-called Romanian area, this article is restricted to a particular feature, namely the Moldavian messengers to Venice between 1501 and 1503, meaning during the first years of Leonardo Loredano’s dogeship. The main conclusion is that all these embassies have nothing in common to the so often invoked anti-Ottoman policy and that they focuse almost exclusively on Stephen the Great’s personal interest to find a solution for his health problems.
