Summary/Abstract: This report examines the role of investigative versions for the effective investigations in the light of the European Convention on Human Rights. The main shortcomings, detected by the Strasbourg court, in the construction and verification of versions has been outlined, as well as the procedural safeguards in Bulgarian law for completeness and comprehensiveness of the investigation. The psychological phenomenon of „tunnel vision” is considered as one reason for the one-sidedness of the investigation and several recommendations for overcoming this have been formulated.
