On the Translation of the Russian Lexeme бакалея into Polish

Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the Russian word бакалея and the issues in finding ways to translate it into Polish. The semantics of this Russian word has undergone several changes during the 18th–20th centuries, therefore, when translating, one should take into account the period of time that the Russian text is describing or comes from. It should be noted that there is no Polish lexeme which could be considered as an equivalent translation of the word бакалея used in contemporary texts.
