Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of the twentieth century the river of Prut mainly represented Romania’s eastern boarder with Austria-Hungary and Russia. The river was developed for navigation by the common efforts of the riparian states, reunited after 1866 in an organisation called Prut Joint Committee. In 1901, a year marking the accomplishment of three decades of actual activity of the Committee, a Technical Committee is appointed, made of experts charged with the governments in question, with the purpose to examine the improvement works made and the results obtained and to formulate propositions for the future. The technical Committee in which Romania was represented by engineer Anghel Saligny drew up a report in Bucharest on July 21st/August 3rd 1901, a remarkable document that evaluated the activities of the Prut Joint Committee, and which is herein presented to researchers.
