Summary/Abstract: This study examines pseudostates, i.e., the smallest organizational structures that are not subjects of international relations but have their own constitutions, flags, currencies, anthems, postage stamps and founders or leaders. Some of these were deliberately formed by organized artistic groups, others arose from the need to show the absurdities of the legal and administrative context within which they operate, while others have become a way of life or mere media games. Some pseudostates have actual structures, their own authorities, institutions, citizens and territories. Others exist only in virtual reality. This is made possible thanks to technological advances and the emergence of the “global network”, an information system based on publicly available, open standards, enabling the use of multimedia means of expression, which have revolutionized many areas of life. Alongside the actual real world, a parallel, disturbingly real, virtual world has been created. Thus, the differences between the two worlds are blurred. This article analyses the most important and interesting ideas about such states. It also tries to answer the question of whether they should be taken seriously, or can take their toll on international relations. All this is preceded by theoretical considerations.
