Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to describe certain political actors in Japan and their attitudes to monuments, memorials and commemoration of the events of World War II in the country’s remembrance policy. Firstly, the author tries to answer the question of how monuments and physical places of remembrance in the region of the Pacific Ocean, referring to the conflict between Japan and the United States during the war, influence the creation of relationships between these countries and the attitudes of leading politicians towards the events of World War II. Secondly, this article attempts to determine which political actors in Japan decide on the creation of memorials associated with Japanese-American relations. The article provides an analysis of the speeches of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and politicians who have spoken about commemorative sites in parliament, as well as existing sources, such as statements issued by individual institutions.
