ISSUES OF THE SENTENCES ORDER IN THE SYNTACl'IC ST'UDIES OF PROF. SPIRO FLOQI

Summary/Abstract: In this article the author addrcsses the issue of the syntactic order of phrase constituents in Albanian, first on a general theoretical leveh and then discusses specifically the piace of words and parts of sentence in the senlence structure. The problem is also treated in the framevvork of the Indo-European languages, from the time when different languages of this family acquired such features and parameters sufficient to make them distinct from each other. The article observes that Albanian remained among the languages that preserved a free word order for the sentence constituents, depending not only on the semantic aspect of the sentences, but also in terms of communication, on thc situation and the purpose of the communication, and according to the theme (T) rheme (R) order. Spiro Floqi has contributed remarkably in the theoretical and practical treatment, pailicularly for the order of the sentence constituents, for the relationship between the main clauses and the subordinate ones. This issue has been dealt with in the Albanian linguistics, and continues to be discussed, primarily by in-depth studies of the sentence, as well as by the various linguistic disciplines: phonetics, semantics and syntax.
