Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the origin and development of worker participation in the European Union legislation and its implementation into the Polish legal system. The idea of worker participation is deeply rooted in Roman Catholic social thought, today highlighted in the Magisterium of the Church. Through the right to participate, employees or their representatives may have influence over decisions related to all key aspects of the company’s operation. The legal guarantee of worker participation in decision-making has a positive economic impact resulting in increased competitiveness.
