Intelligentsia of Zemstvo during World War I (on the materials of the central provinces of Russia)

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the activities of the intelligentsia of Zemstvo — so-called «third element», in the rear, reveals its role in the organization of aid to the wounded and the front, traces the contribution of Zemstvo's employees to the formation of the civil society elements in Russia during the World War I. The relationship of Zemstvo activists and the authorities which have played a considerable role in the historical destinies of Russian Empire.
