Summary/Abstract: By gathering reflections and theorizations inspired by the study of the archival documents, along with a consistent specialized bibliography primarily in Russian language, the study has in intention to investigate the context of the emergence and evolution of the archival studies in Bessarabia. The main purpose of the topic comes into being through the knowledge and turning to account of the positive experiences of the past and in case of need through their methodological approach.The issue stands under the impact of the reforms promoted in Russia, initiated to the end of the 19th century by circles of the intellectuals of liberal position inside the Imperial Academy of Sciences. Their main desideratum referred to the exploration and use of the spiritual heritage by the foundation of the archaeographical and archaeological scientific commissions and of the historical archives in the governmental counties. In the governmental county of Bessarabia, the theoretical researches in the field, the systematic exploration and the scientific conservation and turning to account of the archival pieces gained consistency through the agency of the Scientific Commission of the Archives. It is about a regional historical-archaeological and archival organical structure, having the foundation of the historical archive of Bessarabia and the study of the historical past as main directions of activity. The commission worked in the period between 1889 and 1923 and edited three volumes of works, guided and promoted the scientific research, which it popularized by setting up museums and by organizing various exhibitions and conferences, adopted the measures necessary for the conservation of the historical monuments. After the union between Bessarabia and the Romanian Kingdom, its vast experience was used by the State Archives branch in Chişinău (1918-1940) and the Chişinău Regional Directorate of the State Archives (1941-1944).
