Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to reveal some issues in the use of expertise in present-day criminal cases. For instance, one of these issues regards the possibility for the parties to involve in the forensic activity performed by the expert and the amplitude of such an involvement. Another issue consists in understanding the necessity that the forensic laboratories require a form of accreditation. The answer may be found out by comparing the results obtained by different forensic scientists, of whom some had and some didn’t have special accreditation. Overall, the paper emphasizes the idea that a better regulation of the use of expertise means an additional support in finding the truth in criminal cases.
