FROM THE HISTORY OF EXHIBITION ACTIVITY IN RUSSIAN PROVINCE OF THE LATE XIXth CENTURY

Summary/Abstract: General scientific and industrial exhibitions in Russia included sections on medicine and public health. They preceded creation of branch museums. The author for the first time reconstructs the development of medical expositions in the late XIXth century on the base of the published catalogues and sources; analyzes the organization of exhibitions, methods of materials presenting, and popularization of medical collection and scientific discoveries. The initiative to organize such exhibitions often came from medical professors. Generally, the medical exhibitions movement played an important role in the development of preventive medical care and the foundation of many collections of medical devices and materials in historical and medical museums.
